PERSONAL CAREERS GUIDANCE 25/26
A career guidance session is a virtual 1-2-1 discussion which allows you to talk about your next steps and career aspirations with a qualified, independent careers adviser.
Your adviser will help you towards achieving your desired career goals, acting as a guide, and leading and setting up a course of action. Sessions are delivered by ACC partner, Positive Steps, and last up to 45 minutes.
Sessions are available if:
You have made the wrong course choice.
You are thinking of leaving your course.
You are uncertain of your next steps when you finish the course.
You have special educational needs.
'Career guidance supports you to access work, education or training opportunities that provide access to a source of income, social contact, purposeful activity and healthy challenges.'
Career guidance helps you to:
Recognise your own strengths and build on them
Focus on the future
Plan a desirable but attainable lifestyle and identity
Work out what is important to you
Set achievable goals
All of these elements can help to promote your well-being. There is good evidence that career guidance has a positive effect on mental health.

A career guidance session can have many benefits. Here are some of them:
Exploring and identifying your own skills, strengths and priorities.
Supporting you to identify career ideas.
Providing up to date careers information and resources..
Providing the latest Labour Market Information (LMI).
Providing up to date information about future learning and employment opportunities.
Access to the latest information on education changes.

Your personal careers guidance will be provided by Positive Steps, an independent charitable trust. It will be a structured career conversation between you and a careers professional.
Your session will be a virtual 1-2-1 discussion lasting around 45 minutes. This will be done via Meets on a computer or mobile, so make sure you are in a quiet space with good internet access.
Your adviser will be a professionally qualified Level 6 Career Adviser.
The output of your session will be an individual Progression Plan for you to take away.

The National Careers Service provides careers information, advice and guidance. They can help you to make decisions on learning, training and work at all stages in your career.
